Instructions - Getting Started

Step 1: Select the appropriate Ad Section. (e.g., Mixed-breed Dogs - Lost)

Step 2: Click on "Place Ads":

Step 3: Register to set up your account. Log in with your account user name and password:

Step 4: Please read the LOST YOUR PET.COM Ads Access Agreement, Terms of Use, and Guidelines before posting your lost pet.

Step 5: Complete the owner and pet's information, including a reward if offered. Reward must be prepaid. You can add a picture of the pet after the ad is posted. Click "Preview My Ad" to review your information:

Step 6: Click "Go to Payment Form" to pay for the lost pet ad.
Note: If you entered an amount in the reward field, you will see a button where you can pay your reward first, then you can return to the Preview your Ad page to pay for your ad.

Step 7: After completing payment information, enter the Access Code from the Access Code Page.

Step 8: Review the lost pet ad, and click "Post My Ad" at the bottom of your ad.

Step 9: Follow the instructions to add a picture to the ad:

Step 10: If you find your pet and a reward is offered, notify LOST YOUR PET.COM to disburse the reward money to the finder and to LOST YOUR PET.COM as follows: Download two LOST YOUR PET.COM reward forms (PDF). You fill out and sign one form, and the finder fills out and signs the other, indicating that the exchange has taken place. Both the owner and the finder fax reward forms to LOST YOUR PET.COM at (314) 991-7900 or e-mail to rexeys@charter.net. Keep copies for yourself and the finder. Don't forget to delete your ad and pictures from the website.

Step 11: Exchange Process - Ask for proof of ownership.
Examples: Vet records, current rabies vaccination, photograph, dog license, etc.

Ask for driver's license or state identification with picture. You write pet owner's drivers license number, name, address, telephone number, cell phone number, e-mail address, date, and time, and keep for your records.

Exchange Process

  1. LOST YOUR PET.COM suggest that the exchange takes place at a police station parking lot for safety purposes.
  2. An alternative location is a local veterinarian's office. Please call your veterinarian first to make arrangements.
  3. If you decide to make the exchange at your home, business or elsewhere, LOST YOUR PET.COM is not liable if any accident occurs, or if you, your pet, or any other person is injured.
  4. Always go with at least one other person when picking up your pet. To protect your safety, never go alone.
  5. Call LOST YOUR PET.COM at (314) 991-7900 for more information if needed.

Exchange tip: Use your cell phone to exchange pictures of pets by text message. If both parties have web cams, the pet can be viewed over the internet.
